MORGANTOWN – The West Virginia Hemp Farmers Cooperative is spreading awareness about ongoing research at West Virginia University.
The group shared hemp facts and products today outside the Mountainlair as part of Hemp History Week.
Regulations in the United States have limited hemp production for more than 70 years.
Recent legislature, however, will allow students at WVU to grow and research hemp in controlled quantities.
That research could lead to valuable findings about hemp’s industrial and medicinal uses.
“West Virginia University is the perfect place to research this, because the application in the medical field is just not even entirely known,” said Morgan Leach, research director for the West Virginia Hemp Farmers Cooperative. “Like I said, we’ve been away from this for 70 years, and we’d like to get back to it.”
